ORGANIC SUNFLOWER SEED OIL (HELIANTHUS ANNUUS)

Sunflower oil contains linoleic acid (omega 6) and oleic acid (omega 9). Both of these fatty acids hydrate the skin and support its natural barrier function. Sunflower oil also contains E, an antioxidant that helps inhibit oxidation while healing, soothing, and moisturizing the skin. Sunflower oil is non-greasy, and easily absorbed by the skin, making it the perfect ingredient in our body oil.

ORGANIC GOLDEN JOJOBA SEED OIL (SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS)

Jojoba is a perennial and drought resistant desert bush whose seeds produce what we call jojoba oil (it's actually not an oil, but a liquid wax). Because it's a wax it has a very long shelf life and also isn't greasy. The jojoba bush thrives in arid climates and is native to California, Arizona, and Northern Mexico. The name "jojoba" comes  from the word "Hohowi," a name given to the seeds by the O'odham, a Native American tribe that discovered the many uses of the plant. Jojoba oil is very similar to our skin's own sebum and therefore provides true nutrients that keeps the skin supple and soft throughout the day. Jojoba has anti-inflammatory properties, is antibacterial, can work to clear up acne by helping to regulate sebaceous gland activity, sooth sunburned skin, and provide healing support for skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

ORGANIC CASTOR BEAN OIL (RICINIS COMMUNIS)

Our castor oil is extracted from the seeds of the castor plant and has been used for thousands of years (think Ancient Egypt) for its variety of health benefits. We use castor seed oil in our body oil for its lymphatic and skin supportive properties. Castor seed oil stimulates lymphatic circulation and drainage, is anti-inflammatory, may improve immune function, moisturizes and heals skin, soothes sunburn, and may reduce acne. Castor oil is non-comedogenic (won't clog pores).

ORGANIC BLACK SEED OIL (NIGELLA SATIVA)

Black seed oil, also known as black cumin seed oil comes from the seeds of a small plant with blue, white or purple flowers that are native to Cyrpus, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Bulgaria and Romania and has been used medicinally and topically for thousands of years. Our cold-pressed organic black seed oil contains high levels of thymoquinone, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound that is supportive skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and acne and is incredibly moisturizing and can support wound healing by increasing collagen formation.

NON-GMO VITAMIN E (TOCOPHEROL)

We use non-GMO vitamin E derived from sunflowers instead of from genetically modified soy. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant, protecting the skin from free radical damage and environmental stress. Vitamin E has anti- inflammatory properties and delivers nutrients to the skin to help moisturize, soothe and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Its antioxidant activity helps prolongs the shelf life of the other oils in our body oil.

ETHICALLY FORAGED PALO SANTO (BURSEA GRAVEOLENS) ESSENTIAL OIL

Our palo santo essential oil is distilled from the wood of the palo santo tree (bursea graveolens) which is native to the dry tropical forests of Ecuador. Not to be confused with bulnesia sarmientoi (also called "palo santo") which is globally endangered and grows in in Bolivia, Paraguay, and Argentina and whose wood resembles mahogany and is used to make furniture and other wood products. We do not use this.

Palo santo has a beautiful and complex scent profile with notes of citrus, mint, fennel and pine. The naturally occurring high amounts of the monoterpene, Limonene in palo santo support a healthy inflammatory response and soothe dry and flaky skin. Palo santo means "holy wood" and has many traditional and sacred uses in Ecuador and is still used by Shamans in the Andes and throughout the country; however, its most common use in Ecuador is in households to ward off mosquitos and other insects. It it also used for its healing abilities and to cleanse and purify spaces. Learn more.
