Cleansing Body Bar Ingredients

UNREFINED ORGANIC & FAIR TRADE SHEA BUTTER (BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII)

Shea butter is made from the fruit of the African Karite tree, meaning Tree of Life. It’s buttery, light, healing, vitamin-rich (specifically high in A and E which protect skin elasticity), non-comedogenic (won't clog pores), nourishing, rejuvenating, non-greasy, and has a subtle yummy nutty smell. Shea butter is also rich in fatty acids, soft, and super emollient and moisturizing, creating a breathable barrier on the skin’s surface - we think it’s the ultimate protection for skin. It's also incredibly healing for inflamed, dry, irritated or sensitive skin. In our soap, shea provides a stable lather/full lather and also gives our bar a lovely feel due to it’s high fat content, which makes for a harder, longer lasting bar. Our organic and fair trade shea butter comes from a small village in Northern Ghana and is handmade by women using traditional methods.

ORGANIC SUNFLOWER OIL (HELIANTHUS ANNUUS) 

Sunflower oil contains linoleic acid (omega 6) and oleic acid (omega 9). Both of these fatty acids help hydrate the skin and support its natural barrier function. Sunflower oil also contains E, an antioxidant that inhibits oxidation while healing, soothing, and moisturizing the skin. Sunflower oil is suitable for almost all skin types and softly conditions and produces a nice soap lather. 

ORGANIC CASTOR OIL (RICINIS COMMUNIS)

Our castor oil is extracted from the seeds of the castor plant and has been used for thousands of years (think Ancient Egypt) for its variety of health benefits. We use castor seed oil in our bar soap for its skin supportive properties. Castor seed oil is anti-inflammatory, moisturizing and healing for the skin, soothes sunburn, may reduce acne, and promotes healthy and shiny hair. Castor oil is non-comedogenic (won't clog pores). Castor oil produces a stable/creamy lather with nice bubbles. Its humectant properties lock in moisture and deeply condition the skin.

ORGANIC PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL (MENTHA X PEPERITA)

Peppermint holds a special place in our heart. A hybrid of watermint and spearmint, peppermint is a perennial herb that’s been used for thousands of years...thought to be one of the world’s oldest medicines, specifically for its digestive properties and skin cleansing abilities. Our organic peppermint essential oil is steam distilled and is characteristically energizing, minty, strong, herbaceous and subtly sweet. An analgesic (pain reliever) and astringent, peppermint also supports inflamed or sunburnt skin. Due to its menthone content, peppermint is uniquely cooling when hot and warming when cold. It gives our soap a burst of brightness for that super fresh and clean feeling and brings clarity and can support mental function.

WILD HARVESTED GIANT KELP (MACROCYSTIS PYRIFERA)

Our sustainable kelp is hand-harvested in Northern, CA by Seaquoia Seaweed. Kelp is a giant algae that lives in saltwater and is incredibly mineral rich which lends to its ability to detoxify, soothe, soften and hydrate the skin and help prevent breakouts. Packed full of antioxidants, kelp also helps to protect the skin from UVA rays and environmental pollution. It’s anti-inflammatory properties support dry, red, irritated and inflamed skin.
